The NBA offers almost unparalleled displays of athleticism on a nightly basis during the season. But the players are still human and so fatigue, either from multiple back-to-backs or the grind of an 82- game season, plays a role. There has been much discussion around this topic the last few years with players concerned about their health and the league concerned about the quality of play when star players rest and the paying public is deprived of seeing their favorites on the court. It is therefore important to try to recognize and quantify when fatigue is affecting the quality of play, particularly if it makes players susceptible to injury. In this analysis, conducted by two undergraduate students and a faculty member at Siena College, we analyzed player tracking data provided by SportVU on the 2017, Wizards-Celtics 7-game series.
